Flan Recipe



Inexperienced cooks may find it difficult to suceed the first time with this recipe. Flan takes a little experience and knowing when to adjust ingredients and cooking times. Also, working with dough can be difficult for the inexperienced. But, don't let that discourage you. Give it a try. After all, who hasn't had a disaster in the kitchen? That's how we learn.

Ingredients
Step 1:
* 1/3 cup of butter
* 1/4 cup tbs of sugar
* 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
* 1 egg
* 2/3 cup of all purpose flour
Step 2:
* 1/2 cup of butter
* 1 cup of brown sugar
* 3/4 cup of heavy cream
* 3 egg yolks
* 1 cup of whipped cream, for garnish

Directions
Step 1:
1. Mix the butter and the sugar together. Add in the vanilla extract and the egg and mix well.
2. Add the flour to the mixture. Stir until a ball of dough forms. Roll out onto a floured surface and knead 2 minutes.
3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator for one hour.
4. Press dough out into a greased baking pan.
5. Bake at 400 degrees F. for 15 minutes and then lower the temperature 350 degrees F. and bake for another 6 minutes until it browns slightly. Remove and allow to cool.
Step 2: 1. Melt the butter in a pot and add in the brown sugar stirring constantly. Bring to a boil and cook 3 minutes.
2. Remove from heat and allow it to sit for a minute.
3. Add in the cream and egg yolks and stir well.
4. Cook over low heat while constantly stirring until the mixture thickens.
5. Remove from heat and pour into the pie crust.
6. Garnish top with whipped cream.
