Here are a few tips to get you out of the kitchen faster with a yummy meal.
- Equip your kitchen with inexpensive, time saving gadgets such as peelers. graters, hand mixer, good knives, food thermometer, electric can opener, measuring cups and spoons, blender and food processor.
- When baking, always preheat your oven while preparing other ingredients.
- Do all preparation before beginning to cook. Do all the cutting, washing, chopping, dicing and measuring first.
- While fresh ingredients are more flavorful, frozen vegetables save a lot of time and can be quite good if seasoned properly.
- Use premix when pressed for time. Cake mixes are fast, simple and pretty good. Bisquick makes good everyday biscuits, waffles and pancakes and is very easy to use.
- Make large batches of food when you have time and freeze for use when you do not have time. Make biscuits in large batches and freeze. Defrost and heat in the microwave and they come out great in 90 seconds. Make burritos a dozen at a time and freeze. They will be ready to eat after 3 minutes in the microwave.
- Use the oven set on 150 degrees F. to hold food hot while finishing other dishes.
- Make gravy mix in advance (only requires adding water to make gravy). A fast way to make gravy that is better than powdered instant mixes. Recipe here
