Tips on Buying a Blender or Juicer
If you are serious about adding fresh juices to your diet, you really need a blender and juicer in your kitchen. Certain juices and smoothies are best made with a blender. While other juices are not only better made in a juicer, in some cases, it is the only way to make them (try putting a whole carrot in your blender!)
We have put together a few tips on choosing a blender and juicer. They are not, by any means, all the tips that would be helpful, but the most obvious and important, in our opinion.
The First ConsiderationAbove all else, purchase the best blender and juicer you can afford. This is not where you want to cut corners. A poorly made juicer or blender will never meet your expectations and be nothing but a headache and waste of money in the end.
A good juicer can be fairly expensive ($100 and up) but they will last for years. A good blender can be purchased for a much more reasonable price ($40-$100).
Blender Tips- Check the power of the motor. Get the highest power you can afford
- Most all have a feeder chute in the lid - don't buy without one
- There are many blending speeds available, buy the one with the most choices
- Make sure you have an "ice crush" speed option
- A long electrical cord is desirable for counter top placement
- Should be dishwasher safe (except the motor base, of course)
- Feeder chute should be large enough to accept half an apple (minimum)
- Some come with a cord storage feature, nice to have
- Clean up should be easy. A minimum of parts with small crevices and hard to reach spaces is desirable
- Power is very important in a juicer. Buy the highest power you can afford
- Some come with a pulp regulator - nice to have
- Cleanable parts should be dishwasher safe
